His
dark blue merle coat, minimal white trim, brilliant dark copper and two intense
blue eyes make Bowie a very striking and handsome fellow. He has excellent
structure and smooth, free movement, and with very limited showing did quite
well in the breed ring, even taking a Reserve under breeder judge Jeanne Weaver.
As a worker, Bowie is upright, very fast,
and a strong header. He grips on the nose and on the heel and is superb on large
numbers of sheep. He has a super balance point and is naturally kicked out. He
is not unnecessarily rough on stock, but when faced with a challenge will do
what he has to do to get the job done. Sometimes he likes to mix things up
just so he can be the "hero" of the day and put everything back
together again. Bowie is outgoing and very intelligent. He is an excellent team
dog, also a great athlete and extremely agile, and can put in a full day's work
with stamina to spare. He is outstanding in close places, such as catch pens,
chutes, and small holding areas. He likes to work all types of stock but his
favorite is sheep.
Bowie is an excellent traveler; his
trialing days have "proofed" him well against all kinds of sights,
sounds, and show conditions. He never gets upset and takes everything in stride.
He never causes any problems on the road and seems to instinctively know a day
or two ahead of time when we are about to take him on a trip. He gets very
excited and tries to jump in the van every chance he gets. Bowie is very smart
and learns quickly, although sometimes he can be somewhat hard-headed and
insistent on doing things his way. We have also found he learns much
quicker when we are teaching something he really wants to do!! He is a
serious minded dog; sometimes we feel too serious minded; but he is learning
that life is not all work and that he can relax and have fun.
Bowie is an excellent example of the truly
versatile Aussie. He is an exceptional companion, well disciplined and always a
gentleman, a true pleasure to have around any time. We can take him anywhere,
under all kinds of unusual conditions, and always know that he will conduct
himself properly. He is very tolerant and patient and likes attention from both
children and adults. He is also a good protector - he once sailed out of the
back of the pickup and "saved" Roger from some cows that he perceived
were threatening Roger because they had gathered around him at the feed troughs!
Bowie's secret desire in life is to be a permanent house resident and couch
potato, and we're sure his wish will one day be granted. He is also very patient
with children - never grouchy toward them. He's a valued hand around the ranch,
he's always welcome in the house and on outings, but most of all -- he's a good
friend.
Bowie is now owned by Bill Wyatt of Hubert,
NC.
